In 27th of April 2018, UrukTech and in cooperation with Al-Mansour University College organizes its Second Annual Workshop on Embedded System “AWES’18” along with Embedded systems and IoT projects competition. The workshop was held in “the Station” under the sponsor ship of many organizations. Sponsors of the workshop were the American Society of Engineering Education – Baghdad Branch (ASEE), Code for Iraq, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Station, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Innovation for Development, and IEEE Young professionals – Iraq.
AWES’18 came after UrukTech First Successful Annual Workshop and competition held on the Middle Technical University/ College of Electrical Engineering Techniques’ campus, Baghdad. AWES’18 aims to bring the newest technologies in the fields of embedded systems and IoT into Iraq and to encourage all seekers in this field to follow up with the last trends.
AWES2018 Checking in and registration started by 08:30 am on the 27th of April 2018 and lasts for an hour, flowed by the opening of both the workshop exhibition and competition by Prof. Dr. Abdulrasool Abed Jassim the Dean of Al-Mansour University College and UrukTech representative. 16 different projects were short listed to participate in the AWES2018 competition.
In the main Hall, the opening of AWES2018 was started by an Opening speech of Dr. Mahmoud Shuker, the Head of Computer Technology Department at Al-Mansour University College, followed by Al-Mansour University college speech given by Prof. Dr. Abdulrasool Abed Jassim the Dean of Al-Mansour University College, UrukTech company representative Mr. Bilal A. Mubdir, the Station speech by Mr. Mujahid Wisi, and ACM speech by Dr. Abduladeem A. Ali, ASEE speech by Dr. Wael Abdulmajeed.
AWES’18 proceedings included many Scientific Lectures given by Academic and professional speakers. At 10:50am, Dr. Nizar Saadi presented his Seminar “Network on Chip”, followed by a paper presentation titled “Multiple Sensors Rescue Robot” presented by Dr. Ameer Kadhim Hadi. And finally, First Session of the workshop ended with Eng. Mohammed Essa who presented his seminar entitled “Embedded Systems Code Design and Architecture”.
Attenders of the workshop had their lunch break and an hour of free time to visit both the UrukTech exhibition and the projects of the competitors. Second Session of the workshop started at 01:00pm with the seminar “PLC Remote Control Using IoT” presented by Dr. Ali A. Abed. At the end of the second session a paper entitled “QR Decomposition based FPGA using Householder Transformation” was presented by Mr. Ahmed k. Abdul Abbas.
Attenders of AWES’18 were able to discuss all scientific materials discussed during both sessions with the speakers in an open Discussion in which all question were asked and answered.
Results of the competition were announced after a scientific based evaluation done by a committee of number of academic staff at the end of the workshop, were three winners projects were announced and awarded prices by both UrukTech and Al-Mansour university college. AWES’18 proceedings was closed by certificating sponsors and committees of the workshop.
